I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hygge Sand Apartment on Linkmenų Gatvė in the Šnipiškės district, I wasn’t expecting much. The building looks pretty standard from the outside, you know, typical Vilnius residential block. But man, was I wrong about what waited inside.

The thing about staying in Šnipiškės is that you’re actually in this perfect sweet spot that most tourists completely miss. You’re literally across the Neris River from Old Town – I mean, you can see the cathedral spires from some of the windows – but you’re living where actual Vilnius residents live. There’s this great little bakery about two blocks down that opens at 6 AM (the smell of fresh rye bread drifting through the streets is honestly one of my favorite memories), and you’ve got the Green Bridge right there when you want to walk into the historic center. Takes maybe fifteen minutes on foot, which beats dealing with the crowded hotel areas around Gedimino Avenue.

What really got me about this place though was how thoughtfully everything was set up inside. The apartment itself feels like someone actually lives there – not in a messy way, but in that cozy, everything-has-its-place way that Scandinavians do so well. And I guess that makes sense with the whole “hygge” concept they’re going for. The kitchen had proper coffee (not those terrible instant packets you get in most short-term rentals), the shower had actual water pressure, and the bed was firm enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been sleeping on a marshmallow. Small things, but they add up when you’re trying to settle in somewhere for more than just a night or two.

The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after about 9 PM, which was perfect for me since I was dealing with some jet lag, but if you’re looking to stumble home from Užupis at 2 AM, you might want to factor in that walk back. Parking was surprisingly easy – there’s street parking right outside, and unlike in Old Town, you don’t have to navigate those narrow medieval streets that make you question your rental car choices. The building itself is secure but not overly fussy about access, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. No standing around waiting for someone to show up with keys.

You know what really sealed it for me though? I could actually picture staying there for a week or even longer without feeling cramped or like I was camping out in someone else’s space. It’s got that rare quality where it feels both comfortable and authentic – like you’re getting a real taste of how people actually live in Vilnius, rather than just passing through the tourist highlights. The 9.9 rating makes total sense once you’re there, because it’s clearly run by people who understand that travelers want genuine comfort, not just Instagram-worthy amenities. If you’re the type who’d rather explore a city from a real neighborhood base instead of being stuck in the tourist bubble, this spot really delivers.

  Viešnagė buvo trumpa, tik viena nakvynė, tad iš esmės, buvo pasinaudota tik lova ir dušu. 🙂 Kaina galėtų būti mažesnė, dėl apartamentų lokacijos, bet viskas atitiko lūkesčius.
