You know what caught me off guard about Velux? Walking into this converted mansard apartment on Marcinkevičiaus street – I mean, you’re literally staying in someone’s attic space, but it works so much better than it sounds. The slanted ceilings and dormer windows give it this cozy, almost Scandinavian vibe that honestly feels more authentic than most cookie-cutter hotel rooms I’ve crashed in around Vilnius.

The location is pretty sweet if you ask me. Verkiai isn’t exactly Old Town (you’ll need about 15 minutes by bus or a decent Uber ride to get to Cathedral Square), but that’s actually part of the charm. You’re in this quieter residential area where locals are just going about their daily lives – there’s something refreshing about waking up to the sounds of neighbors heading to work instead of drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to some great local spots that most visitors never discover. The nearby Verkiai Regional Park is gorgeous if you’re into morning runs or just need to decompress after exploring the city all day.

I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t luxury accommodation, and at 3 stars with an 8.1 rating, nobody’s pretending it is. The mansard setup means you might bump your head if you’re tall (learned that the hard way), and the bathroom is compact in that European way that Americans sometimes struggle with. But honestly? The place has character. The windows let in amazing light during the day, and there’s something oddly satisfying about the way the space is arranged – everything has its place, sort of like staying on a well-designed boat. The host clearly put thought into making it functional despite the architectural quirks. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven in Vilnius will tell you is no small miracle. Check-in was smooth – the kind of straightforward process where you get the keys, a quick rundown of how everything works, and then you’re left to settle in without any hovering. I appreciated that. The whole experience reminded me why I sometimes prefer these smaller, more personal places over the big chain hotels where you feel like just another room number.

  Very cozy and beautiful location. Warm apartment. The hostess was really great as she left the keys to a specific location in order to pick them up as we arrived very late, around 4.30 am.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment needs painting as the walls were dirty. The beds were not comfortable at all. No elevator.
