First Impressions

Walking up to Railway Apartments on Sodų gatvė, you immediately get that “I’m in the real Vilnius” feeling. This four-star property sits right in the heart of Old Town, and I mean literally — you’re surrounded by cobblestone streets and medieval architecture that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream tourist trap, which honestly was refreshing after seeing so many overly polished hotels.

Location Magic

Here’s what I love about this spot — you can walk to pretty much everything that matters in Vilnius without breaking a sweat. The Cathedral Square is maybe five minutes away, and you’ll find yourself wandering past centuries-old churches and hidden courtyards just getting there. What really struck me was how couples seem to gravitate toward this area (they apparently rate the location 9.5 out of 10), and after spending time here, I totally get why. There’s something romantic about having morning coffee while looking out at those red-tiled roofs and church spires.

The Apartment Experience

The apartment I stayed in felt more like a stylish local’s place than a typical hotel room. You’ve got a proper kitchen setup — not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation — which means you can actually cook if you want to try those amazing ingredients from the nearby markets. The space has this modern-meets-historic vibe that works really well, with contemporary furnishings that don’t clash with the building’s character. I actually found myself spending more time in the apartment than I usually do in hotel rooms, just because it felt so comfortable and lived-in.

Neighborhood Life

What you notice pretty quickly is that this isn’t just a tourist zone — real people live and work around here. There’s a little restaurant around the corner that locals frequent (always a good sign), and you’ll see residents walking their dogs in the morning along the same streets where tour groups pass later in the day. The Old Town can get busy, sure, but somehow this particular street maintains this quieter, more residential feel. Parking can be tricky in this area — it’s Old Town, after all — but the trade-off of being able to walk everywhere makes it worth dealing with.

Why Guests Love It

I think what makes Railway Apartments work so well is that balance between being right in the action but not overwhelmed by it. You’re close enough to hear the church bells and catch the energy of the Old Town, but you can also retreat to your own space when you need to recharge. The fact that it consistently gets such high ratings (9.1 overall) makes sense when you experience how thoughtfully everything is set up. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re living in Vilnius rather than just visiting it, which honestly is exactly what I want when I travel.

  Great location near the station, easy to find, self check in is available, there are lockers to leave your suitcase so no need to go with it around the city 😁
  Clean and comfortable, with all necessary equipment and even coffee machine with capsules on the spot. Hair dryer is good, almost in all hotels I’ve been to it was either broke or low power

  Excellent soundproofing of the windows, large refrigerator and freezer, excellent new washing machine, very helpful staff.
  
  What could be improved: Since the windows are at ground level and are right on the sidewalk, one doesn't want to open the windows, so a dehumidifier would have been helpful.
