Railway Apartments Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Railway Apartments? The name makes it sound like you’re staying next to some busy train station, but honestly, this place is tucked away on one of Old Town’s quieter cobblestone streets – Sodų gatvė – and it’s actually one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. I mean, you’re still right in the heart of everything (I could walk to Cathedral Square in maybe eight minutes), but there’s this lovely residential feel that most tourists never experience.

The apartments themselves are what I’d call authentically Lithuanian – not trying too hard to be fancy, just really well thought out and comfortable. Each unit feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room, which honestly made such a difference during my stay. The kitchenettes are properly equipped too – not just for show – so I ended up grabbing fresh bread and local cheese from the market near Town Hall and having breakfast while looking out at the medieval rooftops. There’s something really satisfying about that, especially when you’re paying 3-star prices but getting this incredibly personal experience. The Wi-Fi actually works (I know, shouldn’t be remarkable, but you’d be surprised how many places mess this up), and the heating was solid during my October visit when those Baltic nights started getting properly chilly.

What really sold me on this place was how the staff – well, I hesitate to call them staff because it felt more like staying with knowledgeable locals – knew all these little details about the neighborhood. They pointed me toward this tiny courtyard café just two streets over that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned wanting to see some authentic Soviet-era architecture, they gave me walking directions that took me through parts of Vilnius most guidebooks completely skip. The whole area around the apartments is perfect for that slow morning coffee walk – you’ll pass by these gorgeous baroque churches and medieval walls, but you’re also just a few minutes from modern shops and restaurants when you want them. I did notice some weekend evenings got a bit lively with locals heading to nearby bars, but honestly, it just added to the authentic neighborhood atmosphere rather than being genuinely disruptive. For the quality and that 9.1 rating (which, after staying there, feels completely earned), Railway Apartments delivers something you just can’t get at the bigger chain hotels – that sense of actually living in Vilnius rather than just visiting it.

Reviews of Railway Apartments

  • Exceptional – Yuchieh from Taiwan – August 24, 2025 (10/10)

    Location,clean

What could be improved: The water heater is not large enough for 2 or more people to take a shower. After one person has finished showering, they have to wait for the water heater to boil before the next person can take a shower.

  • Exceptional – Maria from Belarus – August 7, 2025 (10/10)

Great location near the station, easy to find, self check in is available, there are lockers to leave your suitcase so no need to go with it around the city 😁
Clean and comfortable, with all necessary equipment and even coffee machine with capsules on the spot. Hair dryer is good, almost in all hotels I’ve been to it was either broke or low power

  • Exceptional – Jeffrey from United States – August 3, 2025 (10/10)

Excellent soundproofing of the windows, large refrigerator and freezer, excellent new washing machine, very helpful staff.

What could be improved: Since the windows are at ground level and are right on the sidewalk, one doesn't want to open the windows, so a dehumidifier would have been helpful.
