Prie Miesto Vartų Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Prie Miesto Vartų, tucked away on Aušros vartų street, I almost walked right past it. The entrance is sort of understated in that charming European way, but once you’re inside, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something pretty special. This 4-star spot sits literally steps from the Gate of Dawn (that’s what “Miesto Vartų” means, by the way), and I mean literally – you can see pilgrims heading to the chapel from some of the windows.

The thing about staying right here in Vilnius Old Town is that you’re basically living inside a UNESCO World Heritage site, which sounds fancy until you realize it also means cobblestones that’ll rattle your luggage wheels to death. But honestly? Worth it for the location alone. I could walk to Gediminas Tower in maybe ten minutes, and all those little amber shops and cozy cafés along Pilies street were right there whenever I wanted to wander. The hotel itself has that polished, contemporary feel – clean lines, good lighting, and thank god, proper soundproofing. You know how some old town hotels let in every single footstep from the street? Not here. I actually slept really well, even on weekend nights when the nearby bars were buzzing.

What really got me was the attention to detail – the kind of stuff you only notice when you’re actually staying somewhere, not just passing through. The shower pressure was excellent (seriously underrated in older European buildings), and they’d clearly thought about storage space, which most boutique hotels completely forget about. The staff knew their stuff too – when I asked about getting to Trakai Castle, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a brochure, he actually explained which bus to catch and warned me about the timing on Sundays. You can tell they deal with travelers who want to really explore, not just Instagram the cathedral and leave. The breakfast was solid – nothing groundbreaking, but proper local touches mixed with the usual international stuff. And here’s something random but useful: they have a little business corner with a printer, which saved my life when I needed boarding passes. With an 8.3 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I get why. It’s that sweet spot where you’re staying somewhere genuinely comfortable and well-run, but you’re also right in the heart of everything that makes Vilnius magical.

Reviews of Prie Miesto Vartų

  • A characterful apartment handy for old town and transport links. – David from United Kingdom – May 10, 2024 (7/10)

Helpful and friendly welcome from host and just a short walk from the railway station and the delights of old town Vilnius.

What could be improved: The one separate bedroom is below ground with no window.

  • Lovely apartment – Marie from Czech Republic – May 16, 2023 (9/10)

Great location, in the city centre, nice and clean apartment, well equipped, everything you can need.

  • Great price/value ratio. – Janusz from Poland – August 23, 2024 (8/10)

Localisation perfect. The appartment supplied with all equipment needed in everyday life. Even small breakfast option was very nice.
For people who intend to make a lot sighseeing within the Vilnius and not to waste time inside appartment it is the very nice price – value ratio for hire.

  • Good – Claudia from Spain – August 18, 2024 (7/10)

I have an ambivalent feeling with this place and its owner. It's small and one of the rooms is underground, in an old building, with no proper ventilation ( 2 windows that can't be opened) thus a moisty smell is present. But I have to say that the owners did the most of the place, with a nice and thoughtful decoration. There was a climatización pump and a lot of details The situation near the Dawn Portal of the city was perfect.
Except for the 5th bed, the others we're comfortable.

What could be improved: The 5th bed is just a slim mattress not proper for sleeping. Thus, this place is not for 5 persons, even if the 5th is a child.
The owner started also quite unpleasantly but at the end he gave us good turidtic indications and a map.

  • Better in real life than the photos – Donna from United Kingdom – July 18, 2024 (8/10)

Is in a good location. The owners were great. I messed up the booking and booked for 1 person instead of 2 and they were lovely and accommodating and resolved the issue. It looks better in real life than the pictures. Breakfast being delivered each day was a bonus as Lithuania isn’t easy to go out for breakfast

  • Very Good – Devorah from Finland – December 12, 2023 (8/10)

Tourist spots and public transport are nearby. Clean and spacious.

What could be improved: Noises can be heard inside and the door lock is quite difficult to figure out.

  • Convenient and unique place – Margarita from Ireland – August 29, 2022 (9/10)

Walking distance to bus station and old town. Very unique apartment, lovely host, clean place. WiFi,TV,parking space provided.

  • Home outside of home 😊 – Sylia from Lithuania – January 19, 2025 (10/10)

It all looked very cute, all from coloured floor tiles to a bunch of small pillows on beds. It seemed to have everything one could think about needing, it's like a real home all set to be lived in. The fireplace heater downstairs was awesome, makes one want to curl on carpet and take a nap like a cat! 😅

What could be improved: Floors are cold but… There's plenty of slippers to choose from. No bad things otherway 👌

  • Very happy to be here – Erikas from Lithuania – December 22, 2024 (10/10)

The location is very close to the old town.

What could be improved: The sound of passing cars wakes up in the morning.

  • Exceptional – Giorgi from Georgia – October 1, 2024 (10/10)

    Great location. Nice apartment.
