Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Vilnius, but Old Town Gate Residence honestly surprised me in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you book a place and cross your fingers it’ll be decent? Well, this one actually exceeded what I was expecting – and I mean that 9.8 rating isn’t just inflated booking site nonsense.

The location on Aušros Vartų street is pretty much perfect if you want to be right in the thick of things without dealing with the tourist chaos on Pilies Street. I’m talking maybe a two-minute walk to the Gate of Dawn (which, let’s be honest, is probably why they named it what they did), but tucked away enough that you’re not hearing drunk backpackers stumbling around at 2 AM. The building itself has that solid Old Town feel – you know, thick walls that actually keep sound out, unlike some of these converted medieval places that feel like paper boxes. When I first walked up to number 19a, I almost missed it because it blends so naturally into the neighborhood, which I actually liked. No gaudy hotel signage screaming “tourist trap.”

What really got me was the attention to detail inside. The apartments – because that’s really what they are, proper residences – feel like someone’s stylish Lithuanian aunt decorated them, if your aunt happened to have excellent taste and a decent budget. Everything works properly (the wifi, the shower pressure, the heating), which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy but you’d be surprised how many places in Old Town struggle with the basics. I stayed there in November, so I can vouch for the heating situation – crucial intel if you’re visiting during the colder months. The kitchens are actually functional too, not just for show, which matters if you want to grab some local cheese and bread from the market on Hales instead of eating out every meal.

Parking was easier than I expected, though I’d still recommend asking them about it when you book – Old Town parking can be a nightmare if you don’t know the local tricks. The staff genuinely seemed to know the area well, not just the obvious tourist spots but practical stuff like which pharmacy stays open late and where to find decent coffee before 8 AM. Check-in was smooth, no standing around wondering if anyone’s actually working there.

Here’s the thing though – it’s definitely more expensive than your average Vilnius accommodation, but sometimes you get what you pay for. If you’re the type who just needs a bed and doesn’t care about the details, maybe save your money. But if you want to feel like you’re actually living in Old Town for a few days rather than just passing through, this place delivers on that feeling. The whole experience felt less like a hotel stay and more like borrowing a friend’s really nice apartment, which is exactly what I was hoping for when I booked it.

  The apartment is great, super spacious, with a very well equipped modern kitchen and anything a traveler can wish for. The location doesn't get more central than this: it's right next to the Gate of Dawn, yet surprisingly quiet and can only be accessed through a gated courtyard. But the best part is the host: Gerimantas really went out of his way to make sure our group was comfortable and had everything that we needed. Thanks to him our stay in Vilnius was just perfect

  Amazing accommodation. Spotlessly clean. Best place for all amenities in the Old Town and also access to Uber and public transport locally. Bars next door, plenty of restaurants, cafes and coffee shops a short walk away. Just 10 to 15 minutes walk from other major sights too. We loved it and will return. Thank you.

  Wspaniały apartament w samym sercu Wilna, blisko Ostrej Bramy. Starówka w zasięgu ręki… Apartament elegancki, komfortowy, czysty i wygodny. Pokoje są na dwóch poziomach, co daje dużo przestrzeni i wygody podczas pobytu. Pokoje oraz dwie łazienki są tak usytuowane, że większa grupa osób będzie się czuła niezależna. Wyposażony we wszystko niezbędne zarówno dla krótkiego jak dłuższego pobytu. Gospodarz troskliwy i pomocny. Byliśmy samochodem – miejsce parkingowe trzeba było poszukać (najlepiej z zewnętrznej strony Ostrej Bramy). Jest to urok starego miasta każdej Stolicy Europejskiej: albo wygodny pobyt na terenie starego miasta, albo wygodne parkowanie. Dla nas to nie przeszkadzało. Kolejny raz z pewnością tam wrócę. Gorąco polecam!
