Mikalo House Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Mikalo House on Šv. Mikalojaus street, you immediately get that “I’ve found something special” feeling. This four-star boutique property sits right in the heart of Vilnius Old Town, and I mean literally in the heart — you’re surrounded by cobblestone streets and medieval architecture that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention but quietly commands respect.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s what I love about staying here — you can walk to pretty much everything worth seeing in Old Town within five minutes. The Cathedral Square, Gediminas Tower, all those charming little cafés tucked into ancient courtyards — they’re all right there. What really impressed me though is how couples seem to absolutely adore this spot (they rate the location 9.8, which honestly makes sense when you experience it). You know what’s rare in Old Town? Finding a place with parking that doesn’t involve a twenty-minute walk with your luggage. Mikalo House actually has private parking on-site, which is basically like finding gold in this part of the city.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of modern comfort and historical charm — you get all the amenities you need without feeling like you’re in some generic hotel chain. The windows look out onto the old streets, and there’s something really satisfying about watching locals go about their daily routines while you’re sipping coffee in your pajamas. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathrooms are well-designed without being flashy.

Neighborhood Vibes

What I really appreciate about this area is how it feels authentically Lithuanian rather than touristy, even though you’re right in the tourist zone. There’s a little restaurant just around the corner that serves incredible cepelinai — those potato dumplings that locals actually eat, not just the tourist versions. Early mornings are magical here; you’ll have the cobblestone streets mostly to yourself, and the light hitting those baroque church facades is something else. The neighborhood has this lived-in quality that makes you feel like a temporary local rather than just another visitor passing through.

Why Guests Love It

Honestly, it’s the combination of things that makes Mikalo House work so well. You get that boutique hotel experience with personal touches, but you’re not paying five-star prices for it. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward experiences that aren’t in every guidebook. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that couples consistently rate so highly — it usually means the place has figured out how to create that intimate, special atmosphere that makes a trip memorable rather than just comfortable.

  • Close to the city center and great value – Igor from Italy – July 24, 2025 (10/10)

I had a great stay at this hostel in Vilnius and would definitely give it 5 stars! The location is ideal – right in the city center, or just about a 10-minute walk from it, making it super convenient for sightseeing. It’s also around 20 minutes on foot from both the international bus station and the train station, which made getting in and out of the city really easy.

The girl at the reception was amazing – super friendly and helpful. She gave me a city map and shared some extra tips on what to see and do around Vilnius, which I really appreciated. I had requested a lower bunk and was happy to see they honored that, which made my stay even more comfortable.

The hostel itself was very quiet and peaceful, which was a huge plus for me. Perfect if you're looking for a calm, relaxing place to stay while exploring the city.

Internet speed is around 30Mb down, it's ok but would wish it was around 100/150Mb.

Highly recommended – great location, friendly staff, and a really chill atmosphere!

What could be improved: The towel is not included, but you can rent it for a small fee

  • Best staff in Vilnius! – Robert from Sweden – July 24, 2025 (8/10)

    The staff was very nice!
The house has everything you'll need for your visit.

You can't get a better location in Vilnius.
It is located on a smaller street right of the old town – you get the location and lose the noise.

There was a fan in the room as well ass both the windows and balcony doors could be opened to handle the summer heat.

I will definitely book my next stay in Vilnius at Mikalo House.

What could be improved: Some things seemed a bit run down, bathroom needed a new coat of paint etc. It was however nothing that ruined my experience.

  • Exceptional – Timotheus from Germany – July 17, 2025 (10/10)

we had a lovely stay with our 5-yr-old. It is a small place with a pleasant personal touch. would definitely come here again.

  • Room 4 is my home away from home ❤️ – Egle from United Kingdom – July 14, 2025 (10/10)

Perfect location, comfy beds, clean facilities, very little noise to be heard from other rooms, delightful and super helpful staff, very fairly priced for what you get, it's always a joy to stay there!

What could be improved: I didn't like that i couldn't stay longer and have to go back and go to work now 🙁
