You know what caught me off guard about Mikalo House? Walking up to this narrow medieval building on Šv. Mikalojaus street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much – I mean, Old Town Vilnius has plenty of cramped little places that look charming from the outside but feel like closets inside. But this place actually gets it right. The moment you step through that heavy wooden door, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about every single detail, from the way the old stone walls have been preserved to how they’ve managed to fit modern bathrooms into what’s basically a 600-year-old structure without making it feel forced or fake.

The location is pretty incredible if you’re the type who likes to wander around on foot – and honestly, that’s the only way to really experience Vilnius Old Town anyway. You’re literally steps from Cathedral Square, but tucked away enough on this quiet cobblestone street that you won’t have tour groups tramping past your window at 7 AM. I spent most evenings just walking out the front door and getting pleasantly lost in those winding medieval alleys, discovering little courtyards and tucked-away restaurants that you’d never find if you were staying out in the modern part of the city. The nearby Literatų Street (you know, the one with all the literary plaques covering every surface) becomes your regular shortcut to the main square, which is sort of magical when you think about it.

What I really appreciated – and this might sound weird – is that they haven’t tried to pretend this is some grand luxury palace when it’s clearly a thoughtfully restored medieval house. The rooms are cozy rather than sprawling, the stairs creak in that authentic old-building way, and you can actually feel the history in the thick walls and low doorways. But they’ve managed to make it genuinely comfortable, with surprisingly good water pressure and heating that actually works (trust me, this matters in Lithuania). The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood inside and out too – they pointed me toward this tiny basement restaurant just around the corner that I never would have found otherwise, and gave me the kind of walking route suggestions that only come from people who actually live here. It’s the sort of place where you feel like you’re staying in someone’s carefully curated home rather than just another hotel room, which I suppose is exactly what they’re going for.

  Great location in the old town. Close to all the sights, many restaurants, and 10-15 mins from the train and bus stations. Nice spacious and clean rooms. Many showers and WCs. Very welcoming host with tips what to see and do. Nice cafe downstairs.

  Really cozy nice Hostel. Really well located in old town. Manager is super nice and helpful!!! she gave me advise to plan mi trip around the city and helped checking times for buses and stuff. Great place

  Everything was literally perfect. Would recommend 100% to any solo travelers looking for a place to stay in Vilnius. Svjieta was an awesome host, location is perfect, and there's a very nice cafe for breakfast and coworking right bellow the hostel.

  I had a great stay at this hostel in Vilnius and would definitely give it 5 stars! The location is ideal – right in the city center, or just about a 10-minute walk from it, making it super convenient for sightseeing. It’s also around 20 minutes on foot from both the international bus station and the train station, which made getting in and out of the city really easy.
  
  The girl at the reception was amazing – super friendly and helpful. She gave me a city map and shared some extra tips on what to see and do around Vilnius, which I really appreciated. I had requested a lower bunk and was happy to see they honored that, which made my stay even more comfortable.
  
  The hostel itself was very quiet and peaceful, which was a huge plus for me. Perfect if you're looking for a calm, relaxing place to stay while exploring the city.
  
  Internet speed is around 30Mb down, it's ok but would wish it was around 100/150Mb.
  
  Highly recommended – great location, friendly staff, and a really chill atmosphere!
  
  What could be improved: The towel is not included, but you can rent it for a small fee

  The staff was very nice!

  You can't get a better location in Vilnius.
  It is located on a smaller street right of the old town – you get the location and lose the noise.
  
  There was a fan in the room as well ass both the windows and balcony doors could be opened to handle the summer heat.
  
  I will definitely book my next stay in Vilnius at Mikalo House.
  
  What could be improved: Some things seemed a bit run down, bathroom needed a new coat of paint etc. It was however nothing that ruined my experience.

  Perfect location, comfy beds, clean facilities, very little noise to be heard from other rooms, delightful and super helpful staff, very fairly priced for what you get, it's always a joy to stay there!
