Hortus Vilnius Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hortus Vilnius on Sodų Street, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked into the Old Town in a way that feels both central and surprisingly quiet. The building itself has this understated charm that fits perfectly with the cobblestone streets around it. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of medieval Vilnius, but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy or overwhelming. The entrance is modest but welcoming, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re looking for a place that feels more like a local discovery than a typical three-star hotel.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this spot — you can walk to pretty much everything that matters in Vilnius Old Town, but you’re not dealing with the noise and crowds of the main tourist drags. Sodų Street is one of those streets where locals actually live and work, so you get a real sense of the city. The Cathedral Square is maybe a five-minute walk, and you’re equally close to all those winding medieval streets with the galleries and cafes. What really struck me is how couples seem to gravitate toward this area — there’s something romantic about being able to wander the Old Town at night and then retreat to this quieter corner.

The Rooms

The rooms at Hortus Vilnius are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” — they’re not trying to wow you with flashy design, but everything feels carefully chosen and comfortable. You’ll find clean lines, good lighting, and beds that are actually comfortable (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given at this price point). The bathrooms are modern without being sterile, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What I appreciated most was the attention to small details — decent Wi-Fi, outlets where you need them, and windows that actually open to let in some of that Old Town air.

The Experience

This isn’t a hotel that’s going to overwhelm you with amenities or services, and that’s actually part of its appeal. The staff knows the neighborhood well and can point you toward places that aren’t in every guidebook. Breakfast is solid — nothing fancy, but fresh and filling enough to fuel a day of exploring. The whole vibe is relaxed and unpretentious, which works perfectly when you’re staying in a UNESCO World Heritage site that can sometimes feel a bit museum-like. You know what I mean — sometimes you need a place that feels normal and comfortable after a day of sightseeing.

Why Guests Love It

People keep coming back to Hortus Vilnius because it strikes that perfect balance between location and value that’s honestly hard to find in European Old Towns. You’re getting a legitimate Old Town address without paying Old Town tourist prices, and the quality is consistently good. Couples especially seem to appreciate how it gives them a base for exploring without being in the thick of tour groups and street performers. It’s the kind of place where you can have a genuine Vilnius experience — close enough to everything important, but far enough from the chaos to actually relax.

Reviews of Hortus Vilnius

  • Sofia from Lithuania (9/10)

Check-in and check-out were smooth. The apartment itself was on the smaller side, but it had everything I needed for a solo adventure.

The location was fantastic! Super close to the train and bus stations, it was also within walking distance of the old town.

The bed was comfy. The shower had great pressure.

I really liked how quiet the room was. The windows faced a courtyard, so there wasn't any street noise to bother me at night. There's also a Georgian restaurant called Chachapuri right next door with great options for breakfast or dinner. The main farmer's market was nearby as well, which is handy if you want to pick up some fresh produce.

Hotel maybe is not fancy, but it gets the job done at a reasonable price.

  • Anna from Ukraine (9/10)

Pretty good room for 1 or 2 guests: nice design, lighting and big windows, good wifi connection. Check in info really helps. Useful location near to the train and bus station on the way from old centre.

Pictures better than the reality, but in general it was good. I'd say 4 out of 5. is a good place for a night for one person, the bed is very nice. The room is tiny, can't imagine 2 people fir in there comfortably.

  • Monika from Poland (8/10)

Excellent location close to the main train station, supermarkets, and old town. The bed was very comfortable and the room was pretty clean. Very good wi-fi connection. There was a nespresso machine with 4 espresso capsules, a fridge and some basic needs like shower gel, shampoo, toilet paper, hairdryer and towels.

Very good location close to the train station, and a good restaurant right below it. Beautiful brick walls and modern kitchen style. Nice coffee with a coffee machine.
