Hortus Vilnius Overview

You know what surprised me most about Hortus Vilnius? How quiet it actually gets at night despite being right in the thick of things. I mean, you’re practically walking distance from Cathedral Square and all the cobblestone charm of Old Town, but somehow this place manages to feel like a peaceful retreat once you’re inside.

The whole vibe is refreshingly unpretentious for a hotel that could easily lean into fancy territory. Sure, it’s got that boutique feel with some genuinely thoughtful design touches – I loved the way they’ve worked plants into basically every corner (the name makes total sense once you see it) – but it never feels like they’re trying too hard. The staff actually knows the neighborhood too, which honestly makes such a difference. When I asked about where to grab proper Lithuanian breakfast, they didn’t just point me toward the tourist traps but steered me to this little spot locals actually use. Small thing, but it matters.

What really sold me was how they handle the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. Check-in was smooth, the rooms are properly soundproofed (you’ll appreciate this if you’ve stayed in some of Vilnius’s older buildings), and the bathrooms are modern without being sterile. The beds are actually comfortable too – not just Instagram-pretty but genuinely restful. I stayed during shoulder season when the weather was sort of unpredictable, and having a reliable heating system and good water pressure felt like small luxuries. There’s this attention to detail that suggests someone who runs this place has actually traveled and knows what annoying hotel quirks to avoid. The WiFi works everywhere, there’s proper lighting for reading, and the windows open wide if you want fresh air instead of AC.

It’s the kind of place that gets the 8.5 rating because it doesn’t have any major flaws and does the fundamentals really well, even if it’s not trying to be the fanciest option in the city. Honestly, that worked perfectly for me – I wanted somewhere comfortable and well-located where I could crash between exploring Užupis and wandering through the markets, not somewhere I’d feel obligated to spend half my time admiring the lobby. The three-star rating feels almost conservative given how well everything actually functions, but maybe that’s just because they’re not charging premium prices for what amounts to a really solid, thoughtfully-run place to stay.

Reviews of Hortus Vilnius

  • Sofia from Lithuania (9/10)

Check-in and check-out were smooth. The apartment itself was on the smaller side, but it had everything I needed for a solo adventure.

The location was fantastic! Super close to the train and bus stations, it was also within walking distance of the old town.

The bed was comfy. The shower had great pressure.

I really liked how quiet the room was. The windows faced a courtyard, so there wasn't any street noise to bother me at night. There's also a Georgian restaurant called Chachapuri right next door with great options for breakfast or dinner. The main farmer's market was nearby as well, which is handy if you want to pick up some fresh produce.

Hotel maybe is not fancy, but it gets the job done at a reasonable price.

Location is very good, close to the bus and train station of Vilnius.
Distance to the city centre is small and one can find many bars/restaurants/coffee places nearby.
Room was in general clean, quite and enough for one person

  • Anna from Ukraine (9/10)

Pretty good room for 1 or 2 guests: nice design, lighting and big windows, good wifi connection. Check in info really helps. Useful location near to the train and bus station on the way from old centre.

  • Alexandra from Kyrgyzstan (8/10)

Pictures better than the reality, but in general it was good. I'd say 4 out of 5. is a good place for a night for one person, the bed is very nice. The room is tiny, can't imagine 2 people fir in there comfortably.

  • Seva from United Kingdom (7/10)

Nice aesthetic property in central location. Modern and comfortable amenities.

  • Monika from Poland (8/10)

Excellent location close to the main train station, supermarkets, and old town. The bed was very comfortable and the room was pretty clean. Very good wi-fi connection. There was a nespresso machine with 4 espresso capsules, a fridge and some basic needs like shower gel, shampoo, toilet paper, hairdryer and towels.

  • Kristina from Norway (7/10)

Very good location close to the train station, and a good restaurant right below it. Beautiful brick walls and modern kitchen style. Nice coffee with a coffee machine.
