I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Hook Studios Vilnius Old Town, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come in unassuming packages. This little gem sits right on Kauno gatvė, which puts you smack in the middle of everything worth seeing in Old Town without the tourist trap pricing of some fancier spots.

The thing that actually struck me first was how quiet it is once you’re up on the 5th floor – I mean, you’re literally in the heart of one of Europe’s most beautiful medieval centers, but the rooms have this surprisingly peaceful vibe. The studios themselves are honestly pretty smart in their layout. Nothing fancy, but everything you need is there, and I appreciated that someone clearly thought about how real people actually use a space. The kitchenette situation is particularly good if you’re planning to stay more than a couple nights – there’s a Maxima grocery store about a three-minute walk away, and grabbing some local bread and cheese for breakfast beats paying hotel prices every morning.

What I really love about this location is that you can walk to Cathedral Square in maybe eight minutes, but you’re also close to some of the spots that locals actually hang out. Užupis – that quirky artist republic everyone talks about – is right across the river, and honestly, some of my best evenings in Vilnius happened just wandering those cobblestone streets after dinner. The nearby restaurants aren’t the touristy ones either; there’s this little Lithuanian place called Lokys that does incredible game dishes, and it’s the kind of spot you’d walk right past if you didn’t know better. Check-in was straightforward, though I’d recommend calling ahead if you’re arriving late – it’s not a massive operation with 24-hour front desk service, but the staff I dealt with knew their stuff and had good recommendations for everything from where to park (street parking can be tricky in Old Town) to which days the markets are worth visiting. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does well. Perfect for travelers who want to actually experience Vilnius rather than just Instagram it from their hotel room.

  Everything must be done online. I imagine for many this is fine. But we had a problem with the form and it took time to reach someone to sort out. Once we did finally reach someone, she was very helpful.
  
  The multiple messages to pay extra in order to chrck-in early or check-out late are annoying. Large hotels accommodate if they can and don't try to charge you.

  The location was great (only 5 minutes from the main station!), bed was comfortable, washing machine, electric stove, kettle, oven and a microwave oven available, great view from the window, we were very satisfied with our stay and can recommend even for longer stays in Vilnius!
  
  What could be improved: The clunky elevator, but that's not the apartment owner's fault, the kitchen could be a bit better equipped (there was no bowl to mix ingredients in, nothing to stir with etc…) and there was only one toilet paper roll, which wasn't enough for 3 people for 6 nights…

  Check-in was effortless, and the directions to the property were very clear. The apartment was cozy and had everything a traveler might need — including a washing machine and a capsule coffee machine. The bed was comfortable, and overall, it was very well equipped.
  I’d be happy to stay there again someday.
  
  What could be improved: The windows face a lively road, so some noise was inevitable. The space was efficiently furnished, but if you're of a larger build, it might feel a bit tight to move around. There were a few stains on the bedspread, and the bathroom baseboard looked a little worn. Still, the price was reasonable, and the apartment was very comfortable for a solo stay.

  Very close to the train station, very cosy: although the building from the outside looks really dodgy, the appartments are new and comfortable.
  There is a supermarket downstairs in the same building and a bakery 4min on foot. The old town is like 10min on foot.
  The view from the 5th floor is quite good with the Gediminas Tower and the Three Crosses Hill in the distance.
  
  What could be improved: Unfortunately the shower didn't work when we arrived but the staff of Hook Studios was responsive and a plumber came the next evening.
  
  Hook Studios has a separate message channel and it is quite tiring to look for the informations… did they come through airbnb, per e-mail, on their website…? In the end you have everything but must take screenshots or remember quite accurately with which media this information came to you.
