Grazus Marijono Buveine apsilankik! Overview
You know what? Grazus Marijono Buveine apsilankik! is probably the most uniquely Lithuanian experience you’ll find in Vilnius, and honestly, I almost didn’t want to write about it because it feels like sharing a well-kept secret. The name literally translates to something like “Beautiful Marjon’s Residence – come visit!” which tells you everything about the owner’s personality right there. It’s tucked away on Birželio 23-iosios street in Naujamiestis, and I’ll be honest – the first time I tried to find it, I walked right past because it doesn’t scream “hotel” from the outside. It looks more like someone’s beautifully restored home, which is sort of the point.
The thing about this place is that it completely throws out the whole star rating system, and after staying here, I actually get why. It’s not trying to be a five-star luxury spot or a budget crash pad – it’s something entirely different. The owner, who I assume is the Marjonas referenced in the name, has created what feels like staying at your most stylish Lithuanian friend’s house, if that friend happened to have impeccable taste and a genuine gift for hospitality. Every room tells a story, and I mean that literally – there are vintage photographs, local artwork, and these amazing little touches that reference Vilnius history. The building itself has this incredible old-world charm (you’ll hear the floors creak in the most charming way), but everything’s been updated thoughtfully. The bathroom in my room had this gorgeous vintage clawfoot tub alongside modern fixtures that actually worked properly.
What really got me was the breakfast situation – it’s not some generic continental spread, but rather this carefully curated selection of local specialties that changes based on what’s seasonal. I had the best šakotis (that’s Lithuanian tree cake) of my life there, paired with coffee that was genuinely better than what I’d been getting at the trendy spots in Užupis. Parking can be a bit tricky on that street – it’s mostly residential with limited spots – but honestly, you’re close enough to everything in Naujamiestis that you’ll probably end up walking most places anyway. The Old Town is maybe a 15-minute walk, and you’re right near some fantastic local restaurants that tourists rarely find. Fair warning though: if you’re someone who needs complete silence to sleep, the location on a residential street means you might hear neighbors coming home late, but it never bothered me much. There’s something genuinely magical about this place that makes those tiny inconveniences fade away – it’s the kind of spot where you feel like you’re experiencing authentic Vilnius rather than just visiting it.
