Congress Hotel Overview

You know what really struck me about Congress Hotel when I first walked in? It’s got this understated elegance that feels authentically Lithuanian rather than trying to be some generic European boutique place. The lobby has these gorgeous original hardwood floors and period details that remind you you’re staying in a building with actual history – I mean, this is Old Town Vilnius we’re talking about, where every cobblestone has a story.

The location on Vilniaus street is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in the medieval quarter rather than just visiting it. I could walk to Gediminas Tower in about ten minutes (uphill, fair warning), and the Cathedral Square is literally around the corner. What I really appreciated though was how quiet it stays at night – you’d think being right in the historic center would mean dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around, but the thick walls and the way the building sits back from the main pedestrian flow keeps things surprisingly peaceful. The rooms themselves have this nice balance of old-world charm and modern comfort. My bathroom was completely renovated with heated floors (which you’ll definitely appreciate if you’re visiting between October and April), but they kept original architectural details like the high ceilings and those tall windows that let in amazing light during the day.

I’ll be honest, the breakfast setup isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s solid and includes some local touches like fresh rye bread and Lithuanian cheeses that you might not find at the chain hotels. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – when I asked about finding a good spot for cepelinai, the desk clerk didn’t just hand me a generic restaurant list but gave me specific directions to a place on Pilies street that locals actually eat at. Parking can be a bit tricky since you’re in the pedestrian zone, but they’ve got arrangements with a garage about three blocks away, and honestly, once you’re settled in you won’t want to drive anywhere anyway. Everything worth seeing is walkable, and the few times I needed to get somewhere further out, taxis were easy to flag down right on the street. The 8.8 rating makes total sense to me – this isn’t luxury in the marble-lobby-and-doorman sense, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re exploring a UNESCO World Heritage site and want to fall asleep somewhere that feels connected to the place rather than isolated from it.

  Very accomodating staff, comfy room. It was rather peaceful although at times you could notice that the sound proofing wasn't that great. Breakfast was good, they had gluten free bread as I had informed them of my gluten free diet beforehands. Location is good, short walk to the old town.

  Perfect location, right by the river and very close to Vilnius’s old town. Staff were helpful and friendly. Everything with the hotel is fresh as it has been renovated yesterday. No need to say, breakfast was fabulous.
  
  What could be improved: Well, you still have the parking charge of 20€/night. The beds were uncomfortable and really do not meet the hotel’s standards.

  Staff was great when I arrived 06:00 after overnight bus from Gdansk. Made sure I was comfortable while waiting for room to be available, stored luggage and provided suggestions & directions for me to pass the time.
  The room was clean and comfortable, with a wonderful view overlooking the River.

  Great location – walking distance from the main sightseeing spots and restaurants (10 minute walking radius). Rooms were very comfortable- even had a stocked mini fridge (with drinks/snacks at reasonable prices). Staff really helpful and very good price. Highly recommend and would stay again when back in Vilnius!
  
  What could be improved: Wifi dropped a bit but was fine as I had data anyway. Might be an issue if you don't have EU roaming data but a very small issue.
