Bernardinu B&B House Overview
You know that feeling when you stumble onto something really special that wasn’t even on your radar? That’s exactly what happened when I first walked into Bernardinu B&B House on this quiet cobblestone street in Vilnius Old Town. I mean, I’d booked it mainly because the location looked decent on the map, but honestly – this place turned out to be one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you’re in on some local secret.
The building itself sits right on Bernardinu gatve, which is basically this charming little street that connects you to all the main Old Town action without the tourist chaos. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Gates of Dawn (locals call it Aušros Vartai), and I actually loved hearing the morning church bells drift through the windows. The owner – and this is where it gets good – clearly has an eye for design that goes way beyond your typical B&B setup. Everything feels thoughtfully curated, from the restored original wooden floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a centuries-old building, to these gorgeous vintage furnishings mixed with modern touches that actually work together. I stayed in October when the morning light was just perfect streaming through those tall windows, creating this warm, golden atmosphere that made it really hard to leave for sightseeing.
What really sets this place apart though is how it manages to feel both intimate and sophisticated without trying too hard. The breakfast setup isn’t some elaborate buffet situation – it’s more like staying with a friend who happens to have excellent taste and knows where to source the best local bread and coffee. You’ll probably end up chatting with other guests around the communal table, which sounds potentially awkward but somehow never is. The rooms themselves vary quite a bit (I’d definitely request one facing the courtyard if you’re a light sleeper, since Bernardinu can get a bit lively on weekend evenings), but they all have this cozy, lived-in elegance that makes you want to just curl up with a book. Parking can be tricky – well, it’s Old Town, so that’s kind of expected – but there’s a public lot about five minutes away, and honestly, you won’t need a car once you’re settled in. The whole UNESCO World Heritage area is right at your doorstep, plus the owner knows all these little shortcuts and local spots that you’d never find on your own. With an 8.8 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I can see why – it’s got that perfect balance of character, comfort, and authenticity that’s getting harder to find these days.

Excellent Old Town location with spotless and comfortable room. – Jazmina from Australia – September 12, 2024 (9/10)
Comfortable bed with decent bathroom in an excellent location in the Old Town. Good communication with the host and easy after-hours access with the drop box. Onsite parking (paid) was also useful.
What could be improved: This is my third stay and all have been excellent, although this particular room had less "Lithuanian" character than the previous two. I did miss the rustic local touches but that's a very minor niggle!Right at the old town – Kamile from Lithuania – September 7, 2024 (8/10)
