Aušros Vartai Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Aušros Vartai feels like discovering a secret that locals have been keeping to themselves. This four-star boutique hotel sits right on Aušros Vartų street, and I mean literally steps from the famous Gates of Dawn — you can’t get more central in Vilnius Old Town than this. The building itself has that understated elegance that Lithuanians do so well, where historical charm meets modern comfort without trying too hard to impress.

Location Magic

Honestly, the location here is almost unfair to other hotels. You’re positioned right where the medieval Old Town meets the more bohemian Užupis district, which means you can wander cobblestone streets in one direction or explore quirky art galleries in the other. I’ve stayed in plenty of “centrally located” places, but this one actually delivers — Cathedral Square is a five-minute stroll, and you can reach Gediminas Tower without breaking a sweat. What really struck me is how quiet it stays despite being in the thick of everything, probably because the street itself is more residential than touristy.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of old-world character and modern functionality that’s surprisingly hard to find. You know what I appreciated most? The windows — they’re large enough to actually frame views of the historic surroundings, and the natural light makes the space feel twice as big. The bathroom was compact but thoughtfully designed, with good water pressure (always a concern in older European buildings). The beds are genuinely comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable, and the soundproofing works well enough that street noise isn’t an issue.

Neighborhood Insights

What makes this spot special is how it puts you right in the daily rhythm of Vilnius life. There’s a little bakery around the corner where locals grab their morning coffee — not touristy at all, just good bread and strong Lithuanian coffee. The nearby streets have this mix of amber shops, cozy restaurant spots, and small galleries that you’d miss if you stayed further out. I found myself just wandering these narrow streets in the evening, when the tourist crowds thin out and you get a real sense of what living here might feel like.

Why Guests Love It

The couples rating of 9.7 for location makes complete sense once you’re here — it’s romantic without being cliché, historic without feeling like a museum. You can walk to dinner, explore different neighborhoods on foot, and still retreat to somewhere that feels like a genuine local discovery rather than an obvious tourist choice. The staff seems to understand that travelers want authentic experiences, not just convenient amenities, and they’re genuinely helpful with recommendations that go beyond the standard guidebook suggestions. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Vilnius the way it’s meant to be experienced.

Best hotels in Vilnius range from charming boutique properties in the baroque Old Town to elegant modern hotels with stunning views of the Neris River and Gediminas Tower.

Reviews of Aušros Vartai

  • Very Good – Anastasiia from Ukraine – August 13, 2025 (8/10)

Location is super great, close to train and bus station and the center too. We enjoyed the complimentary coffee and sweets. The bed was pretty comfortable too!

What could be improved: The bathroom is not well designed to it's hard so shower without splashing water everywhere and flooding the whole room. It was a minor inconvenience.

  • Value for money small apartment near the stations. – Vaidasmo from Lithuania – August 8, 2025 (10/10)

Very central location, near the stations. Kitchenette full of equipment. Friendly staff, easy self check-in.

What could be improved: Very small apartment, especially the shower space..

  • Damp nightmare – Ina from United Kingdom – August 7, 2025 (3/10)

The location and the kitchen amenities plus the internet

What could be improved: The lack of ventilation in the bathroom, the damp smell coming out of the bathroom and having to open the main door to ventilate the apartment. Any other time other than summer would be insane in this property. Windows don't open. Dingy – no daylight as the windows are looking into the courtyard that's covered under a roof.

Also, it was raining when we were staying and it was impossible to dry anything off with the lack of ventilation. After 2 days our clothes are started smelling of damp.

Leaking shower didn't allow the bathroom to ever dry out and mould everywhere

  • Basic needs met for budget travel except of daylight and fresh air. – Kristel from Estonia – June 30, 2025 (3/10)

Great location indeed. Organ music from the nearby chapel could be heard to the apartment that resembled to Hindu shrine.

What could be improved: There is no clean air nor daylight in the room. The air is filled with incenses of many sort and the windows do not open, only the outside door. The "courtyard view" means the windows open to the dark entrance to it.

  • Exceptional – Vladimir from Russia – June 29, 2025 (10/10)

Замечательное место в непосредственной близости от одной из главных достопримечательностей Вильнюса. Чистый уютный номер, где очень приятно остановиться и отдохнуть.
    Очень рекомендую! Спасибо!

  • Exceptional – Inessa from Belarus – June 18, 2025 (10/10)

Прекрасное расположение!!! Удивительно, как на такой небольшой площади можно разместить все необходимое.
Видно, что обустройством жилья занимался человек со вкусом.
В следующую поездку в Вильнюс обязательно выберу этот объект

  • Exceptional stay – Wiktoria from Netherlands – June 14, 2025 (8/10)

The location is perfect, we liked many cute lights in the house and nice smells in the room.
Everything you need is in the apartment, from kitchen supplies to beauty mirrors.

What could be improved: I think the apartment in general was cleaned however kitchen supplies (forks, plates, spoons etc.) had to be cleaned again, most probably previous tourists didn’t clean these well, but I would suggest to double check before the new people arrive if everything is tidy and not dusty.

It is a perfect place for 2-3 days.

  • Cute, cozy, and central – Patricia from Lithuania – June 4, 2025 (10/10)

The property is clean, well laid out and in a perfect location! It’s so close to the centre, but in a courtyard so it doesn’t feel like you are in the Main Street. The host is so lovely and so helpful also, which really made this whole experience amazing!

What could be improved: The only issue is sometimes you can hear the neighbours as it echos a little in the courtyard, but mostly it was great!

  • Exceptional – Tomas from Lithuania – May 26, 2025 (10/10)

Our stay in this apartment left a very good impression! Although the apartment is small, everything is thoughtfully arranged down to the details, making it comfortable and cozy. A big advantage is its location right in Vilnius Old Town, a historic district where everything is easily accessible on foot. It’s a great choice for anyone looking for a special, cozy place to stay in Vilnius. We would happily come back again!

  • Small apartment in the center for a very good price – Vaidasmo from Lithuania – May 10, 2025 (10/10)

Very central, cosy, very small apartment. Value for money, definitely.

What could be improved: Everything was fine, just a very small apartment 🙂
