Aušros Vartai Overview

You know what struck me first about Aušros Vartai? The location is absolutely perfect – I mean, you’re literally staying on the same street as the famous Gates of Dawn chapel, which honestly feels a bit surreal when you’re walking back from dinner and see locals still stopping by for evening prayers. The hotel sits right in the thick of Vilnius Old Town, and I’m talking like a two-minute walk to the main cathedral square. No exaggeration there.

The building itself has this understated charm that I really appreciated – it’s not trying to be some fancy boutique place, but the rooms are surprisingly well put together for a 3-star spot. My room overlooked the cobblestone street (fair warning: you’ll hear some footsteps at night, but it dies down after 11 PM usually), and there’s something kind of magical about opening those windows in the morning and seeing the medieval walls right across the way. The staff actually knows the neighborhood inside and out – they steered me toward this tiny Lithuanian restaurant on Pilies Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. Check-in was smooth too, though they do prefer if you arrive after 3 PM since the building’s entrance is shared with some apartments and things can get a bit tight during the day.

What really sold me on this place was how it strikes that perfect balance between being right in the action but still feeling like a peaceful retreat. I mean, you’re steps away from all the tourist stuff – the university, those winding medieval streets, the morning market on Cathedral Square – but the actual hotel has this quiet, almost residential vibe that helped me sleep really well. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Old Town Vilnius, after all), but they’re thoughtfully laid out with decent storage space and surprisingly good water pressure in the shower. Plus, and this might sound random, but the WiFi actually works throughout the building, which isn’t always a given in these older structures. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since parking nearby is way easier than I expected – there’s a small lot just around the corner that the hotel can arrange for you. It’s one of those places where the 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there.

Best hotels in Vilnius range from charming boutique properties in the baroque Old Town to elegant modern hotels with stunning views of the Neris River and Gediminas Tower.

Reviews of Aušros Vartai

  • Cute, cozy, and central – Patricia from Lithuania – June 4, 2025 (10/10)

The property is clean, well laid out and in a perfect location! It’s so close to the centre, but in a courtyard so it doesn’t feel like you are in the Main Street. The host is so lovely and so helpful also, which really made this whole experience amazing!

What could be improved: The only issue is sometimes you can hear the neighbours as it echos a little in the courtyard, but mostly it was great!

  • Exceptional – Tomas from Lithuania – May 26, 2025 (10/10)

Our stay in this apartment left a very good impression! Although the apartment is small, everything is thoughtfully arranged down to the details, making it comfortable and cozy. A big advantage is its location right in Vilnius Old Town, a historic district where everything is easily accessible on foot. It’s a great choice for anyone looking for a special, cozy place to stay in Vilnius. We would happily come back again!

  • Very Good – Anastasiia from Ukraine – August 13, 2025 (8/10)

Location is super great, close to train and bus station and the center too. We enjoyed the complimentary coffee and sweets. The bed was pretty comfortable too!

What could be improved: The bathroom is not well designed to it's hard so shower without splashing water everywhere and flooding the whole room. It was a minor inconvenience.

  • Value for money small apartment near the stations. – Vaidasmo from Lithuania – August 8, 2025 (10/10)

Very central location, near the stations. Kitchenette full of equipment. Friendly staff, easy self check-in.

What could be improved: Very small apartment, especially the shower space..

  • Small apartment in the center for a very good price – Vaidasmo from Lithuania – May 10, 2025 (10/10)

Very central, cosy, very small apartment. Value for money, definitely.

What could be improved: Everything was fine, just a very small apartment 🙂

  • Exceptional stay – Wiktoria from Netherlands – June 14, 2025 (8/10)

The location is perfect, we liked many cute lights in the house and nice smells in the room.
Everything you need is in the apartment, from kitchen supplies to beauty mirrors.

What could be improved: I think the apartment in general was cleaned however kitchen supplies (forks, plates, spoons etc.) had to be cleaned again, most probably previous tourists didn’t clean these well, but I would suggest to double check before the new people arrive if everything is tidy and not dusty.

It is a perfect place for 2-3 days.

  • Damp nightmare – Ina from United Kingdom – August 7, 2025 (3/10)

The location and the kitchen amenities plus the internet

What could be improved: The lack of ventilation in the bathroom, the damp smell coming out of the bathroom and having to open the main door to ventilate the apartment. Any other time other than summer would be insane in this property. Windows don't open. Dingy – no daylight as the windows are looking into the courtyard that's covered under a roof.

Also, it was raining when we were staying and it was impossible to dry anything off with the lack of ventilation. After 2 days our clothes are started smelling of damp.

Leaking shower didn't allow the bathroom to ever dry out and mould everywhere

  • Basic needs met for budget travel except of daylight and fresh air. – Kristel from Estonia – June 30, 2025 (3/10)

Great location indeed. Organ music from the nearby chapel could be heard to the apartment that resembled to Hindu shrine.

What could be improved: There is no clean air nor daylight in the room. The air is filled with incenses of many sort and the windows do not open, only the outside door. The "courtyard view" means the windows open to the dark entrance to it.

  • Exceptional – Vladimir from Russia – June 29, 2025 (10/10)

Замечательное место в непосредственной близости от одной из главных достопримечательностей Вильнюса. Чистый уютный номер, где очень приятно остановиться и отдохнуть.
    Очень рекомендую! Спасибо!

  • Exceptional – Inessa from Belarus – June 18, 2025 (10/10)

Прекрасное расположение!!! Удивительно, как на такой небольшой площади можно разместить все необходимое.
Видно, что обустройством жилья занимался человек со вкусом.
В следующую поездку в Вильнюс обязательно выберу этот объект
