Angel House Vilnius 38 Overview

When I first stumbled across Angel House Vilnius 38, I honestly wasn’t expecting much – it’s tucked away on Užupio street in this quirky little bohemian quarter that feels like it belongs in a fairy tale rather than downtown Vilnius. You know what though? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that catch you completely off guard.

The thing about staying right here in Užupis is that you’re literally in the heart of what locals call their “republic” – and I mean that quite seriously, since this neighborhood actually declared independence as an art project back in ’97 and still has its own constitution posted on a wall nearby. Walking to the apartment, you’ll cross this tiny bridge over the Vilnia River, and suddenly the whole vibe changes from tourist-heavy Old Town to something more… I don’t know, authentic? The cobblestones are a bit uneven (pack comfortable shoes), but there’s something magical about hearing the river flow underneath your window at night. It’s actually pretty quiet once the day-trippers head back to their hotels – most of the noise comes from the occasional art opening or the cats that seem to own this neighborhood.

What really got me about this place was how it manages to feel like a proper home rather than just another rental. The 9.5 rating makes sense when you experience it – everything works the way it should, the internet is solid (crucial for me since I was working remotely), and the whole setup feels thoughtfully arranged rather than just thrown together. The building itself has that lived-in European charm where the stairs creak just enough to give it character but not enough to keep you awake. Honestly, the location does half the work here – you’re maybe a seven-minute walk to Cathedral Square if you want the full tourist experience, but you can also just wander down to the riverside cafés where locals actually hang out. There’s this little spot called Užupio Kavine just around the corner where they make incredibly strong coffee and the barista will probably remember your order by day three. The grocery situation is pretty solid too – there’s a Maxima about ten minutes away if you want to stock up, though I’d recommend hitting the small market near Town Hall for better bread and local stuff. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, but most people end up walking everywhere anyway since the Old Town is basically designed for pedestrians who lived here 400 years ago.

Exploring Vilnius offers visitors an unforgettable journey through Lithuania’s cultural heart, from its UNESCO-listed baroque old town to its vibrant contemporary arts scene and beautiful Baltic atmosphere.

  • Lovely apartment in a charming neighbourhood – Gintaras from Switzerland – January 19, 2024 (10/10)

Excellent location, very quiet, walking distance to most sights, grocery store meters away, several bakeries and some coffee shops nearby. Apartment itself is comfy, warm and well equipped. The host is super responsive and always ready to help. Would stay again without a doubt.

  • Great value for a clean, comfy, spacious apartment in a fantastic location! – Marcel from Belgium – February 22, 2023 (9/10)

I really liked the clean and cozy yet spacious character of the rooftop apartment in a charming, very old city building. The location in the bohemian Uzupios Republika with its cafes and artisan shops nearby the historic center, two rivers, parks, churches, and the fortress is splendid.

What could be improved: Some scissors, some soup/cereal bowls, a broom, and a dustpan with brush would be very handy to have in the apartment. Also an explanation in English about the trash and recycling in the building would be helpful.
