Look, I’m going to be completely honest about Amber Nest Vilnius – this place caught me off guard, and not necessarily in a good way. Tucked away on Šv. Stepono street in the heart of Old Town, you’d think the location alone would carry it (and honestly, the cobblestone charm outside is pretty spectacular). But here’s the thing – sometimes a unique boutique hotel without an official star rating means they’re doing something innovative and cool, and sometimes… well, sometimes it just means they can’t quite meet the standards for proper classification.

I mean, don’t get me wrong – the building itself has character. You’re literally steps from some of Vilnius’s most Instagram-worthy spots, and you can practically roll out of bed and stumble into Cathedral Square. The Old Town location is genuinely fantastic if you want that authentic Baltic medieval vibe without having to trek from some modern hotel district. But – and this is a big but – the execution inside doesn’t quite match the promise of that gorgeous historical exterior. The rooms felt a bit tired when I stayed there, and you know what really got to me? The little details that should make a boutique property special just weren’t there. I’m talking about things like proper lighting (seriously, trying to read at night was a challenge), inconsistent hot water, and this general sense that maintenance had been, let’s say, deferred for a while.

What’s frustrating is that you can see the potential everywhere. The staff genuinely tried to be helpful, and there’s something charming about staying in a building that’s probably seen more history than most museums. Plus, if you’re the type who values location above everything else, you really can’t beat being right in the thick of things – morning coffee runs to local cafés, evening walks along the Neris River, and easy access to all those narrow medieval streets that make Vilnius so special. But honestly? For what they’re charging (even in a relatively affordable city like Vilnius), I expected more attention to the guest experience. It’s one of those places where you might have a perfectly fine stay if you’re not too picky and you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city anyway. Just maybe pack a good book light and don’t expect luxury amenities, even the basic ones that most travelers take for granted these days.
